"What do you do when your island home
is in the cross hairs of climate change
and faces forever being swallowed
by the tide of a rising ocean?"

A Local’s Watering Hole

This is my buddy T’s water well that is in his backyard.

I was surprised to find to out that they had fresh natural ground water on the island. Apparently the fresh water thankfully separates from the saltwater, floating on the surface. The locals skim the top water of these wells, to get fresh(er) drinking water. I am told that the water still has a heavy salt taste and that they are always challenged to keep it clean from leaching contaminants -  I was advised prior to coming here ‘not to drink the water’.    TB_well_1TB_well_2

It’s always humbling when you come across these challenges to access the simple of necessities, further putting into perspective how easy I have it.
